To keep up with global demand, coffee in India is primarily produced via conventional agricultural methods. Over time, this results in depleted yields and compromised quality that negatively impacts the longevity of the land and the farmer’s livelihood.
Kodama Estate has been one of the few producers in South India practicing sustainable agronomy and harvesting practices from inception. Leo Soriano & Catherine Ganapathy are family members and the intermediaries making the coffee accessible to a global market. Kodama is a family owned third generation estate in Coorg, Karnataka. The coffee we have here is produced on 12 out of the 30 Acres owned by the family.
After targeted improvements in fly-picking and sorting process, this is their first harvest accessible outside of India and the move has led to Kodama impacting other India farmers to engage in the regenerative agricultural practice. It has also resulted in this particular coffee successfully graded as specialty grade. We were impressed by the cleanliness and full bodied nature of this coffee, and are glad to be a part of this evolution, and the potential of Specialty Coffee in India."
